I’m Takari Talmore, and my journey to founding Dignified Paths began on November 27, 2020—a day that changed my life. I was viciously attacked by my husband, and the struggle that followed was just as painful as the assault itself. Navigating the police department and court system was a nightmare. I jumped through hoops, desperately seeking protection that often felt out of reach. The system seemed to ask more of me than of the abuser, and I found myself at a loss.
This harrowing experience ignited a fire in me to help others facing similar battles. I decided to write Hey Girl Hey Sorry, Can't Fix This, not just my story but as a lifeline to those still trying to break free. The book became my way of sharing the strategies I used to escape, rebuild, and reclaim my life.
In doing research for my book, I was overwhelmed by the statistics. The sheer number of domestic violence cases, the alarmingly young age of many victims, and the tragic murder rates shook me to my core. It was then that I knew my story wasn’t just mine—it was a story shared by too many women and girls in this country. That’s when I knew I had to do more.
Through Dignified Paths, I’ve made it my mission to empower women, particularly youth girls, to break free from the cycle of domestic violence and cultivate self-worth and strength. I’m not just speaking from a place of theory—I’ve lived it. I know the fear, the pain, and the courage it takes to reclaim your dignity.
In addition to founding Dignified Paths, I’m actively involved in community efforts. Since 2019, I’ve been part of the Black Organizing Project (BOP), serving on the Member Planning Team, where I work to coordinate and promote community-building activities. I also serve in the Pittsburg Women’s Community League, pledging to support philanthropic endeavors aimed at uplifting our communities.
My story isn’t just one of survival—it’s a story of relentless advocacy and resilience. And it’s my mission to ensure that no woman, no matter her age or circumstance, ever feels alone in her fight.
